As we are hot into convention season, there have been a slew of new board games announced or released this week and we’ve got you covered:

Gloomhaven: Button and Bugs

Cephalofair Games, publisher of the massively popular Gloomhaven and Frosthaven board games have just announced the newest game in this fantasy universe. Based on the award-winning print and play game Gloomholdin’, Gloomhaven: Buttons and Bugs is a new small box game from Cephalofair. However, this isn’t a straight-up printing of Gloomholdin’. In fact, they brought in veteran designer Nikki Valens (Mansions of Madness 2e, Eldritch Horror) to help take the design to the next level.

“The original goal was to keep it to something you could play in your hand without a table, which, sure, may have been useful to some people, but we decided we could serve more people better by streamlining the rules as much as possible. What we ended up with can’t be played in your hand, but the table space is still fairly minimal. Think an airplane tray table.”

You can find out more info about this small box title on the campaign page for their Backerkit campaign where its available for purchase for only $15.

Everdell Farshore

Everdell: Farshore

Tabletop Tycoon has opened up preorders for the newest game in their Everdell universe. Dubbed Everdell: Farshore, it’s a set collection and worker placement game that will definitely be drawing in feelings of the original game.

“Welcome to Everdell Farshore, a standalone game set in the country of Farshore. Through each season, you lead a crew of critter workers to build up a prosperous city and to explore the enchanting ocean beyond. You must plan your actions carefully in order to build and to sail, for only by adapting to the winds of change will you succeed.”

It’s currently avaible for preorder on the Tabletop Tycoon website for $75 with August delivery.

Without Fail

Without Fail

From publisher Exploding Kittens comes their newest party game, Without Fail. This party game offers 150 challenges, involving props like a blindfold, cups and balls, dice, pens, and more – all provided in the game box. The challenges are simple, but there’s a catch. Before a player begins a challenge, their friends bet on how difficult the challenge can be made without failing. The friend who makes the challenge the hardest becomes that player’s teammate, and they both score if the player can successfully complete the challenge. However, if they upped the stakes too high and the challenger fails, then all other players earn a point, and the challenger and their teammate both lose points. Success is based entirely on whether players are good judges of their friends’ abilities. Without Fail is available for $25 on the exploding Kittens website.

While he will play just about anything, Tony loves games that let him completely immerse himself in the theme. He also is a bit of a component addict.
